Objective

The student is able to
- identify knowledge and skills affecting health and health assessment
- plan, implement and evaluate health status and needs of an individual patient visiting in health centre
- evaluate the meaning of professional interaction and cooperation with individual client in different health assessment situations
- understand meaning of culturally competent health assessment in primary health care
- recognize different methods of client and patient empowerment in primary health care
- assess the need for consultation and multiprofessional team work in primary health care

Meaning of health assessment in primary health care
Primary health care service systems, service and care chains, regulations, organizations, economical factors, applied assessment technologies and techniques
Preparation for health assessment and work with individual client / patient
Cultural assessment, developmental assessment, system assessment
Patient guidance and support for self-care
Patient documentation in primary health care

Further information

The competence gained in the study unit relates to concept of health and health assessment within the professional nursing in primary health care environments. Specific skills of physical, psychological, and socio-cultural assessment are taught and practiced. Students will be able to utilize different knowledge of evidence based information of the recommendations of most commons care paths (Käypä hoitosuositus).
