Sairaanhoitajan ydinosaamisen (180 op) valtakunnallinen koe on suositeltavaa tehdä, kun opinnoista on suoritettuna noin 180 op. Tämä ajoittuu yleensä sairaanhoitajakoulutuksessa moduulin Vakavasti sairaan potilaan hoitotyö ja terveydenhoitajakoulutuksessa moduulin Päätöksenteko perusterveydenhuollossa yhteyteen.
